Reproducing our content
Our guides, figures and data are free to reuse under CC BY 4.0: credit TaxNotes.ca and link to what you used.
Our licence: CC BY 4.0
The content of TaxNotes.ca is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). That covers the text of our guides and pages, the rates tables, our open data files, and the results from our public API and MCP server.
You can copy, share and republish it, in whole or in part, and adapt, translate or build on it, for any purpose, commercial or not, without asking first. The one condition is that you give credit.
Giving credit
When you use our content, include:
- TaxNotes.ca as the source,
- a link to the page or data you used,
- the licence, CC BY 4.0, with a link to it, and
- a note that you changed it, if you did.
For example:
“RRSPs: how contributions save tax”, TaxNotes.ca, https://taxnotes.ca/guides/rrsp-basics/, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Every guide’s Markdown copy ends with a ready-made citation and licence line, and How to cite us has more on citing figures.
What the licence doesn’t cover
- The TaxNotes.ca name and logo. Use them to credit us, but not in a way that suggests we endorse you, your business or your version of our content.
- The site’s code: its software, scripts and styles.
- Text and figures published by the government, which we quote or link to. Those stay under that government’s own terms (see below).
A few requests
These aren’t conditions, but they help your readers:
- Cite the original official source too: the CRA or Revenu Québec page listed with the guide (under “Sources”) or in the data.
- Say which tax year a figure is for. Rates and limits change every year, and an old figure can mislead.
- Keep it clear that this is general information, not personal tax advice.
Linking to us
You can link to any page on TaxNotes.ca from anywhere, without asking. Link straight to the page that helps your readers; there’s no need to go through the home page.
Please don’t show our pages inside a frame on your own site, or link or credit us in a way that suggests we endorse you or your business.
Easy ways to reuse it
Every guide is also available as Markdown: add .md to its address. Every figure is in our open data files, with the official source for each section, and the public API and MCP server answer questions directly. It’s all explained in the bot lounge.
Using the official figures
The figures on this site come from the Canada Revenue Agency, Revenu Québec and other official government sources, and each rates table and guide lists the pages it used. You can always take the figures straight from those sources instead: they’re published by the government, and you can use them directly under that government’s own terms.
Anything else
The text and tables on this site are © Local Foundry, Inc., licensed under CC BY 4.0. Like the licence, we offer them as they are, with no warranty: they’re general information, not advice. For anything the licence doesn’t cover, ask us at hello@taxnotes.ca.
